Angela Chao to Receive the Distinguished Entrepreneurship Award from CAAPS
The Chinese American Academic and Professional Society (CAAPS) will be awarding Angela Chao the Distinguished Entrepreneurship Award in recognition of her achievements, leadership, and commitment to entrepreneurship. The ceremony will take place at the CAAPS annual gathering. The convention and banquet will be held at the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel, in Flushing, New York.
The CAAPS Mission
The CAAPS was founded in 1975 and has three main focus areas: (1) developing cooperation among academics and professionals across a number of sectors, (2) enhancing and facilitating the stimulation of new thinking in science, social sciences and human relations, and (3) fostering cross-cultural communication and partnership among Chinese Americans as well as between Chinese Americans and other ethnic groups within a broad range of American communities. To further its mission, CAAPS sponsors a number of conferences, such as the Wireless and Optical Communications Conference, an annual conference that facilitates exchange of information among Chinese professionals in Singapore, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and the United States.
A Large Forum for Exchange and Interaction
The annual convention and awards banquet draws a very large number of Chinese-American professionals. The first convention was held in 1976 and hosted more than 600 guests. Its theme and focus were on economics and industrial innovation. Returning somewhat to its roots, CAAPS chose “Innovation, New Technology and New Thinking” to be the 2017 theme. Topics on the agenda for keynote addresses and roundtable discussions include medicine, healthy living, economic development, communication technologies, and the environment.
CAAPS boasts a distinguished roster of previous honorees, including Angela Chao’s father, Founder and Chairman of the Foremost Group., Dr. James S.C. Chao. Dr. Chao was the inaugural recipient of the CAAPS Lifetime Achievement Award, bestowed upon him in 2004.
