Angela Chao received her undergraduate degree in economics from Harvard College, graduating manga cum laude in three years. Upon graduation, Angela entered the investment banking industry, where she was engaged in mergers & acquisitions at Smith Barney, now a part of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. After receiving her M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, she rejoined her family's international shipping company—Foremost Group.
Angela is a published author on the topics of economics, international trade and finance, and education including her senior thesis entitled, "Empirical Tests of Status Consumption," which was published in the Journal of Economic Psychology. She was featured in the 2005 Journal of Commerce special edition on Women in International Trade, and authored an article for the 2011 issue of BOAO Review, on the subject of the importance of education, "…we must strive to foster an environment in which learning and education are highly valued."
Angela Chao has addressed many audiences, including the Boao Forum, the BIMCO Centenary General Meeting and the World Shipping Summit in China. Angela serves on a number of public and nonprofit boards - past and present. She is engaged in many philanthropic endeavors and shares her story of growing up with hard working parents, who imbued in her a strong work ethic and commitment to giving back to society.
