San Antonio’s Panama Texas Business Summit Hosts Angela Chao as Featured Speaker
This past week, international diplomats and industry leaders attended the Panama Texas Business Summit (PTBS) for a commercial exchange between the nation of Panama and the U.S. state of Texas. Angela Chao, Chair and CEO of Foremost Group, was invited to the San Antonio event as a featured speaker.
The event’s organizer, Eric Paz, who also serves as CEO and Chairman of PTBS, stated, “As one of the most widely recognized female leaders in shipping, we are pleased that Angela Chao will share her insights and perspectives at this year’s summit.”
Prior to the event, Chao said, “The Panama Canal– and the relationship between the U.S. and Panama are critical to battling continued inflation and supply chain disruptions. I look forward to joining leading voices from the U.S. and Panama at the summit in September as we engage in a constructive dialogue focused on problem solving for the benefit of the Americas and the global economy.”
San Antonio Mayor, Ron Nirenberg, was present at the conference, as was CEO of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, Richard Perez. They were joined by President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama, Marcela Galindo, Panama’s Vice Minister of Foreign Trade, Juan Carlos Sosa, and Consul General of Panama in Houston, Jaime Sosa.
“The Panama Canal had over 12,000 transits in 2021, facilitating 292 million tons of cargo,” Chao informed attendees at the summit. She continued, “May I add how incredibly proud I am to be in shipping. We ship over 90% of the world’s goods and are responsible for only 2.1%-2.2% of the world’s GHG emissions. “90% of world trade is 11.9 billion tons of goods last year– and that is 1.6 billion tons of goods for every single human being on this earth. We are the most environmentally friendly mode of transportation – far outperforming air, rail, and road.”
Foremost Group has gone even further to help achieve these environmental benchmarks, as they cycle out their fleet every five years to ensure that each ship is maintained to top-of-the-line technological, energy efficient, and ecological standards. The company has maintained this strategy for the better part of 30 years, and it is one of the reasons they are considered a world leader in eco-friendly dry bulk shipping.
Of Foremost Group, Angela Chao added in her speech, “We are proud to transport the goods that build and feed the world.”
