Angela Chao Spoke on ShippingInsight 2021 Virtual Panel for Shipowners

On October 12, 2021, at the ShippingInsight 2021 Conference, Foremost Group Chair and CEO Angela Chao spoke on a virtual panel for shipowners and was titled "Lunch on the Bridge." The panel focused on three major topics: crew welfare in light of Covid-19, the nature of the ship of the future, and success of the industry's adoption and compliance with IMO 2020.
IMO 2020 is a rule that places a 0.50% mass-by-mass restriction on the sulfur in fuel oil used on ships operating outside designated emission control areas. This limitation is significantly stricter than the previously allowed level of 3.5%, while levels inside specifically designated emission control areas had already been stricter at 0.10%. The new limit came as a result of an amendment to Annex VI of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships. Simply put, limiting sulphur oxides emissions from ships reduces air pollution as well as particulate matter. This stricter limitation has already had significantly beneficial health and environmental effects for the world, especially for people living near ports and coasts.
The ShippingInsight Conference is a leading forum for tech and innovation in the maritime industry. It is a place for professionals to discuss ideas and challenges about how the industry is transforming. Ms. Chao spoke on the panel together with industry leaders from Cargill. Genco, Ardmore and Petrobras.
