Angela Chao, CEO and Chair of Foremost Group, Addresses 12th Annual New York Maritime Forum
Angela Chao, CEO and Chair of Foremost Group, was the keynote address in a one-on-one discussion with Mr. Richard DuMoulin, Owner of Intrepid Shipping and Former Chairman of INTERTANKO on the final day of Capital Link's 12th Annual New York Maritime Forum. The event was held over two days, from October 14-15, 2020.
Leaders from Shell International Trading and Shipping, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the U.S. Department of Energy were the keynote speakers on the first day, October 14.
Originally planned as an in-person event, this was transformed into digital form for the first time ever, and it allowed a remarkable number of participants from international countries to participate.
At the forum, Angela discussed Foremost Group's role in the American shipping industry over its 56 years of history. Foremost Group is a privately-held company that has built a name for itself through its commitment to excellence and its prioritizing of long-term decisions and actions. One example of a long-term action is the incorporation of fuel-efficient and eco-friendly designs into its modern fleet.
During her keynote, Angela Chao addressed the advantages and tremendous value that family-led companies, especially private companies like Foremost, bring. Such companies can take long-term positions, unswayed by market vicissitudes, while treasuring and upholding the original family values that established the company in its beginnings. These companies can make the hard decisions that have little or no short-term benefit for the long-term benefit.
Foremost Group was founded by Angela’s parents, Dr. James Chao and the late Ruth Mulan Chu Chao, in 1964. Angela credits the company’s success with sticking to her family’s core values: honor, integrity, and performance.
Capital Link’s 12th Annual New York Maritime Forum was held in partnership with DNB and in cooperation with the New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, the New York City Economic Development Corporation and the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.
