A Trade Association with a Long History of Serving the Maritime Industry
ASBA (Association of Ship Brokers and Agents) was founded in 1934. It functions as a trade association representing ship agents, ship brokers and affiliate professionals located in Canada and the United States. ASBA establishes and articulates industry standards, defines professional conduct regulations, and facilitates communication and connections among its members. It operates through a number of committees, such as Dry Cargo, Tanker, Ethics & Grievance and Government.
ASBA also offers a number of educational programs that culminate in degrees and certificates. They offer several online courses, including Maritime Law, Shipbroking & Chartered Vessels Operations, and Commercial Trade Transactions. Diploma programs are also offered via live seminars and long-distance learning platforms in the subjects of Chartering and Ship Agency. Empowering Emerging Leaders
Focusing on the future, ASBA operates the Young Ship Brokers & Agents (YSBA) program whose mission is to prepare the next generation of shipping professionals. YSBA was launched in 2010 and supports emerging leaders currently working in the US and Canada. The primary focus is put on ship agents and ship brokers, but YSBA welcomes all young professionals in the maritime industry. The YSBA program serves as an incubator for the development of professionalism and exchange of ideas; it offers participants opportunities to network and build channels for ongoing communication.
ASBA produces three high-quality newsletters each year and is a frequent contributor to the leading maritime industry journals and publications.
